About Juan

Juan Villaseñor is a dedicated tubist and music educator based in Northern California. A graduate of Sonoma State University with a Bachelor’s in Music Education, Juan brings a deep passion for performance, mentorship, and community engagement, shaped by a lifelong connection to music.

Born into a musical family rooted in the vibrant traditions of Mexican bandas, Juan’s love for brass began early. Throughout high school, Juan’s commitment grew. He performed at Carnegie Hall as a freshman, marched throughout the Bay Area, and earned honors each year, including spots in the County Honor Band (grades 11–12) and the prestigious Northern California Honor Band in his senior year.

At Sonoma State, he spent hours practicing, joined the brass ensemble, was a member of the SSU Wind Ensemble, SSU Orchestra and played with his local youth orchestra to push his development.

Since graduating in 2022, Juan has built a multifaceted career. He performed with the San Francisco Conservatory of Music Orchestra and Wind Ensemble throughout their 2022–2023 season, and continues to collaborate with SFCM whether its through the CE Low brass Ensemble or other performance opportunities. He frequently performs with the College of Marin and continues to assist his alma mater’s Wind Ensemble and Brass Ensemble.

A passionate educator, Juan has taught numerous middle school and high school students, several of whom have earned Northern California and All-State Honor Band recognition. Other students currently serve as principal tuba players in their respective youth orchestras despite being among the youngest members in those ensembles.

Juan has participated in masterclasses with members of The President’s Own United States Marine Band, the Santa Rosa Symphony, the San Francisco Symphony, the Sacramento Philharmonic, and other top-tier ensembles gaining exposure to a wide range of professional insight and performance practices. He has also had the privilege of studying with Øystein Baadsvik in a one-on-one lesson, and being able to play for of Warren Deck.
