About Juan

Juan Villaseñor is a dedicated tubist and music educator based in Northern California. A graduate of Sonoma State University with a Bachelor’s in Music Education, Juan brings a deep passion for performance, mentorship, and community engagement, shaped by a lifelong connection to music.

Born into a musical family rooted in the vibrant traditions of Mexican bandas, Juan’s love for brass began early. Throughout high school, Juan’s commitment grew. He performed at Carnegie Hall as a freshman, marched throughout the Bay Area, and earned honors each year, including spots in the County Honor Band (grades 11–12) and the prestigious Northern California Honor Band in his senior year.

At Sonoma State, he spent hours practicing, joined the brass ensemble, was a member of the SSU Wind Ensemble, SSU Orchestra and played with his local youth orchestra to push his development.

Since graduating in 2022, Juan has built a multifaceted career. He performed with the San Francisco Conservatory of Music Orchestra and Wind Ensemble throughout their 2022–2023 season, earned praise for his tone and technical precision in gigs with the College of Marin, and continues to assist his alma mater’s Wind Ensemble and Brass Ensemble. A passionate educator, Juan has taught numerous middle school students, including a standout who earned All-State honors and joined a local youth orchestra at just 13. He has also worked with his former youth orchestra and had the privilege of studying with Øystein Baadsvik in a one-on-one lesson.

Juan has participated in masterclasses with members of The President’s Own United States Marine Band, the Santa Rosa Symphony, the San Francisco Symphony, the Sacramento Philharmonic, and other top-tier ensembles gaining exposure to a wide range of professional insight and performance practices.

Whether on stage or in the teaching studio, Juan brings a deep commitment to quality, growth, and service through music. With professional experience, a powerful personal story, and a high-performance instrument to match, he is ready to continue his musical journey wherever it leads next.
